Groundhog-Stoner Mesa Landscape Corridor

The mid-elevation aspen and mixed-conifer forests of Groundhog Mesa and Stoner Mesa contain a significant elk migration route through the west end of the San Juans. These forests are prime habitat for use by marten and goshawk. Excluding closed logging roads, the road density is 0.48 mile/square mile, a value which falls nicely within the scientific guidelines of less than 0.50 mile/square mile for corridors.
